MUADesk Privacy

MUADesk is a quoting and scheduling tool for self-employed makeup artists. It runs entirely on your phone. There is no account, no sign-in, and no MUADesk server.

We — Qualia Labs Limited, the developer of MUADesk — never receive your data. We cannot see your clients, your prices, or your bookings, because none of it is ever sent to us.

What MUADesk stores on your phone

All of the following is held in a database on your device only:

• Your business setup — home postcode, working hours, deposit percentage, mileage rate, free travel radius, buffer and setup times, currency, and your business name, contact detail and social handle
• Your price list — service names, categories, durations and prices
• Your jobs — client name, date, services booked, the quote, any adjustments, deposit and payment status, and booking notes
• Travel results — postcode pairs with the drive time and mileage found for them

This data stays on your phone until you delete it. Archived jobs are cleared automatically after the number of days you choose in Settings. Deleting the app removes everything; because nothing is backed up to us, it cannot be recovered.

The data you hold about your clients

MUADesk keeps personal data about the people you work for: their name, the full postcode of the job, the door or flat number if you add one, the date and time, any guest names you record against a face, and what they have paid or still owe.

Under UK data protection law you are the data controller for that information, not us. Qualia Labs Limited never receives it — it never leaves your device on its way to us, because there is nowhere on our side for it to go. What that means in practice is that answering a client who asks what you hold about them, or who asks you to delete it, is your responsibility.

Two things you should know so you can answer honestly:

• Job postcodes and venue names are sent to Mapbox to work out drive times. Client names are not.
• If you turn on calendar sync, the client's name and address are written into whichever calendar you pick. Choose a Google, Apple or Microsoft calendar and that copy syncs to their servers under your own account.

MUADesk is built to hold less over time, in two different ways.

Enquiries that came to nothing are deleted. A dead enquiry or a tentative job that went quiet is removed outright after a period you choose in Settings. Anything with money against it — a deposit taken, a refund given — is never swept this way, at any setting, because that is a financial record.

Jobs that did happen lose their identity but keep their money. HMRC asks sole traders to keep records for five years past the 31 January filing deadline for the tax year a job falls in. On 1 February the day after that window closes, MUADesk strips the client's name, the postcode, the door number and any guest names from the job, leaving the money and the work behind. This is automatic and not something you set — it follows the tax year, not a preference.

You can also delete any job yourself at any time, which removes it entirely.

What leaves your phone

Travel times and postcode lookup (Mapbox). When MUADesk works out a drive time, suggests a postcode, or estimates travel to a venue, it sends the following to Mapbox, our mapping provider:

• the complete postcodes involved (your home postcode and the job's postcode)
• the venue or place name, when you have pasted an enquiry that mentions one
• your GPS coordinates, only if you tap “Use my location” during setup

MUADesk does not send Mapbox your client names, your prices, your quotes, your notes, or the full text of any enquiry you paste in. When you paste an enquiry, only the place name is extracted and looked up.

Mapbox processes this to return a drive time and distance. Their handling of it is covered by the Mapbox privacy policy.

If travel lookup is unavailable, MUADesk still works — you enter travel time by hand and nothing leaves your phone at all.

Your phone calendar. If you allow calendar access, MUADesk writes your jobs into a calendar you pick, including the job title, times, location and notes. It reads only the list of your calendars and the events it created itself — it never opens or reads your other events. If the calendar you pick belongs to a Google, Apple or Microsoft account, that provider syncs the events under your own account and their privacy policy applies to that copy. Choosing an on-device calendar keeps it local.

Nothing else. MUADesk contains no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no other third-party services. Google Play collects its own crash and install statistics for any app installed from the Play Store; that is Google's collection, governed by Google's privacy policy, and it does not include your MUADesk data.

Permissions and why

• Location — one reading, to find your home postcode during setup. Optional: type it instead.
• Calendar — to add and update your jobs in a calendar you choose. Optional: skippable.
• Notifications — local reminders of when to leave for a job. Optional.

Notifications are scheduled on your phone. No push service is used and no message passes through us.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal data. Because your MUADesk data is held on your own device rather than by us, you exercise those rights directly: you can view, correct and delete any job, price or setting in the app, and uninstalling MUADesk erases the lot.

Children

MUADesk is a tool for working professionals and is not directed at anyone under 18.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
